Just when I thought I had seen the craziest news out of Photokina, I came across this little beauty — the Hasselbald H3DII-50.
The new digital SLR is the first to use Kodak’s 50 megapixel sensor. That’s right, 50 mp. Wowzer.
But that’s not it. Hasselbad says they will have a 60 megapixel version on the market in 2009!
Of course, there’s a catch. The new camera will ring in at £14,750. So, only $27,000 for this little digital wonder. And that’s just the body kit. No lenses included. I’ll start saving now, and maybe I can own one in 2037.
The sensor is about two times larger than a normal 35mm sensor. The 60 mp camera is due out by April of next year.
What do you need 60 megapixels for? Hard to say. Shooting billboard images perhaps. I can’t imagine the size of the raw files.
What are your thoughts on a 50 megapixel camera? Not exactally what the consumer world needs, but perhaps the professional world will create some stunning views with it.
