I figured we would start to see digital picture frames transform into much more than just a bedside accent. And AT&T’s new partnership with Samsung is making that leap a reality.
Plus, it brings back the need for a home phone.
The AT&T HomeManager is a 7-inch touchscreen built by Samsung. Available in nine markets, the screen, which acts as a digital frame when not in use, is the hub of your home communication network, from which you can place and receive calls.
Sure, there is Internet content like sports scores and weather reports, too. All of it works with a cordless headset AT&T will market. Of course, you need a 2-year contract with AT&T to boot.
But, it is a fully functional digital frame with a huge jump in features. More and more, the digital photo frame is becoming what the device does when it’s not in use. It’s funny, because the technology started to display images, and now displaying images is just the default option on so many screens. With RSS feeds and otehr online content available for even the simple frames, big pieces of equipment like this are becoming more mainstream. A pretty cool jump if you ask me.
