What should secret terrorist information cost? On the black market, I’m sure British intelligence would fetch a hefty price. However, when it’s accidentally sold to twenty-something deliveryman over eBay, the cost rings in at around $30.00.
That’s right, according to the Sun newspaper, MI6, the real-life home of fictional super spy James Bond, saw some of its secret terrorism files slip into an outsider’s hands when an agent sold his Nikon Coolpix camera for £17 on eBay.
According to the Sun:
The Nikon Coolpix camera was snapped up for just £17 on the auction website by an innocent 28-year-old deliveryman who lives with his mum.
Apparently, the camera’s memory card held “top secret” information concerning al-Qaida operatives. Whoops. The happy new owner of the camera found the documents when he went to download his vacation photos. That has to feel like a strange moment.
I’m not sure what is more surprising about this story — the fact that an agent accidentally left top secret information on a camera before selling it on eBay, or, more shockingly, the MI6 uses a Nikon Coolpix camera. Don’t they know about the Minox spy cameras?
