New trend in digital photography: closing doors
Posted by Andrew Nealon in Digital Cameras on 10 6th, 2008 |

If you live in the greater New York area, you might be familiar with Wegmans drugstores. They are your typical drugstore/market, complete with photo processing. Or, at least, they used to be complete with photo processing.

Due to a huge jump in digital cameras and digital photo printers and frames, smaller chains such as Wegmans are being forced to close down their photo departments.

And while Wegmans is a pretty small-scle closure — 63 full-time and 173 part-time employees will be affected by this closure — the trend will continue to grow. While some bigger chains will be able to keep their departments open, I’m sure downsizing is a possibility.

So, if you have old undeveloped film sitting around the house, I’d take it on in to the store while you can.

However, all this bad news for film developers is good news for the digital camera and photography markets, which just keep growing.
