Kodack rolls out new camera, technology
Posted by Andrew Nealon in Digital Cameras on 10 15th, 2008 |

Kodak has always been associated with photography, but their cameras have always fallen short of wowing photographers. All that might change with the release of Kodak’s new M1093 IS digital camera. The point-and-shoot compact camera, which hits U.S. markets in November, is running on the platform that it’s Smart Capture technology can make photography creatively fun and high-quality, all at the same time.

Well, most SLRs can do that too. So what?

Let’s let Kodak tell us waht they mean:

“With the EasyShare M1093 digital cameras, Kodak is continuing to innovate and introduce smart technology that delivers on the promise of ‘you press the button, we do the rest”, said Paul Johns, Marketing Director, Kodak Consumer Digital Imaging Group, Asia Pacific Region. “For 120 years, Kodak has helped consumers capture life-long memories and now, in this digital age, it all comes to life in this camera that allow users to take quality pictures easily, affordably and without compromise.”

From what I can tell from that explanation and the rest of the press release, Smart Capture technology is a fancy name for the auto function. As they say:

A default feature on on Kodak cameras, Smart Capture helps users to automatically identify the scene, adjust camera settings and apply custom image processing in order to capture great pictures in many challenging situations. This 10-megapixel camera also incorporates an Optical Image Stablisation feature that reduces blur caused by camera shake, subject movement or fast-action situations. Available in black and silver the M1093 IS is equipped with a 3X optical zoom lens and a 3-inch wide-angle viewing screen.

Well, without a doubt, this camera has what it needs to stay competitive in the market. We’ll see if the auto function needed a new name. But, hey, what can you do? The camera should ring in around $370 when it hits stores just in time for Christmas.
