Digital photo frames really have taken off since last couple years of introduction and improvements.  You can see a chart on Google Trends of how many more people are searching for digital photo frames, especially at the end of the year.  We believe there will also be a bigger spike than ever this year for people searching and buying digital photo frames near the end of the 2008 season.

We have combined some data and analysis for you to prove that GiiNii digital photo frames have the best price in relation to features.  (We’ve included links to other digital photo frames too so we are not biased into making you buy our GiiNii digital photo frames.  But yes, GiiNii proves to be the most budget-buyer-friendly)

We hope you enjoy our reviews.  It should definitely help you choose the right digital photo frame whether that’s for yourself or a Christmas gift to your parents/loved ones.

As far as price goes, GiiNii’s 7″ digital frame proves to be the best.  But to be fair, if you wanted to get some good internal memory of 512MB, you’d go with the Pandigital 7″, which is priced at $99.99 but offers the most internal memory of all.

If you wanted to go for the best screen resolution with the best prices, I’d have to say Smartparts offers the best bang for your buck with its 800×480 pixel resolution and 128MB internal memory.

For 8″ digital photo frames, GiiNii offers clear advantage over SmartParts with slightly better resolution of 800×600 over 800×480 pixels.  Of course, you’d pay a little more but we’d say the extra resolution and ability to accept 7 different types of memory cards is worth the extra 20 bucks.  Coby also offers a competitive price but there’s no internal memory (as far as we know, there’s nothing about it on the Sears website), that’s a no-go as you will have to spend extra on a memory card.

We gave you the numbers, please feel free to choose the right frames for you and we have many helpful articles to help you choose below.

Features to Look For

Our blogger Andrew Nealon has a great article on the Top 5 Features you should look for in a digital frame, here’s an excerpt from the article:

1: WiFi

The newest trend in digital photo frames is WiFi support. And while you don’t need WiFi to enjoy your photos, it’s definitely the way of the future. WiFi allows your frame to access your home network, or any other open wireless network, and stream photos from an online service or your home computer.

2: Audio

Most frames these days come with audio playback, which allows you to load MP3 or other song files onto the frame. Once the songs are on the frame, speakers built in to the frame can play the songs along with your photos, making nice slideshow presentations.

3: Video

Because more and more digital cameras — from point and shoot cameras to SLRs — are including video recording options, it’s important to think about video playback when shopping for a frame. If you do use your camera for video, you will want a frame with playback so you can share the memories with everyone.

4: Display Size

You might want a huge display for that bare wall or a small display to save space on your desk or bedside table. Digital frames come in all shapes and sizes these days. And, depending on hte function you want your frame to perform, you might want big, but you might want small.

5: Management System

First and foremost, does the frame speak your native tongue? Not everyone is a technical wizz in English. So make sure if your Polish grandma is going to get a new frame as a gift, the frame should have Polish support.

Next, a frame either has a built-in file management system or it plays directly off a memory card. Card systems are easy and fast. They don’t require the user to change anything. Just plug in the card, sit back and view photos.

How To Blur A Photo
Posted by David Allen in Digital Frames, Digital Photo Online Tools on 10 31st, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Most of the time when you take a photo they are fine, but occasionally you may have to take a picture of an event or in a crowded area, when this happens there are always going to be other people and maybe even traffic or buildings that you would prefer were not there at all.

This may sound like a job for the pros, but in reality blurring the ground of a picture in order to make the image that you really want standout is not as hard as you might have thought.

You need Photoshop to make this happen and your images. You start off with getting the image up on your screen. Press Ctrl Shift in Photoshop, of by simply pressing Inverse from the Select menu. This will outline the image and show the background which is to be blurred.

Now select filter and click on Blur, this will apply some blurring to the background, keep repeating this until the desired effect has been obtained. There are other alternatives such as Gaussian Blur or you could attempt to alter the pixels.

Now you have to save this image, make sure that it is under a different heading by using the Save As option, otherwise you will lose the original. Now your image is ready to be placed onto a memory and into the GiiNii™ 8” Ultra Thin Digital Picture Frame.

How to bag yourself a bargain
Posted by David Allen in Digital Frames on 10 30th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

In times of a global downturn in business, there is much talk of how bad things are and what is even more worrying haw bad things can possibly get. However, this is not always the same story for everyone, there are people who find that the credit crunch has not affected them at all and it is these people who are able to cash in on the falling prices.

The problem for retailers is that there is a lack of customers, so those people who have the cash readily available can in fact cash in on the declining prices; retailers have to sell stock at any price, even if it means selling it at cost price.

The digital photo frame market in Taiwan has seen a downturn in business by anything up to thirty per cent, which means for the buyer that there are some terrific bargains out there, which is the opportunity that only, come around every now and then.

It was initially estimated that there would be around twenty million digital photo frames being shipped from Taiwan this year, however in the light of this financial trouble this figure has been revised down to around fifteen million units.

The market is defiantly a buyer’s market, and with the festive season on its way what better time, could there be to check out the Giinii range of digital photo frames.

How to send photos to your frame
Posted by David Allen in Digital Frames on 10 29th, 2008| icon3No Comments »

As technology advances digital photo frames are able, perform some very interesting tasks, in fact tasks which you may have only thought was possible through a computer, let alone a simple photo frame.

However, of course digital photo frames are now far from simple, in fact the technology has reached a standard where they should be classed as computing devices.

One thing that you are able to do with a modern digital photo frame is send a photo taken on you cell phone at any location in the world and with the right tools send it directly to your digital photo frame that is sitting in your living room.

There are also services that assist with this process, like Ceiva, for just $50 per year, you can take photos on a digital camera, upload them to the Ceiva website, where they are saved. Then later on in the day, the digital photo frame connects to the Ceiva website and downloads the photos all ready to display them when the frame is switched on in the morning.

The beauty of a system like this is that the digital photo frame does not even have to be the family frame, it can be friends or family; imagine the grandparents faces who are greeted with a new set of photos when they turn their frame on.

This is just an example of how the technology of digital photo frames has come along, and it is only limited by our time and imagination.
